Ajiawen, Yi nationality, was born in 1939 in Quzuo Village, Shaochong Town, Shiping County, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. On February 28, 2008, A Jiawen, together with Shi Wanheng and Hou Baoyun, were awarded the certificate of inheritor of the national intangible cultural heritage project Yi Haicai Opera and Yi Cigarette Box Dance.
A Jiawen fell in love with the ukulele when he was 12 years old. Not only does he practice playing at home, but he also plays like crazy on the way to school. The school was not allowed to bring the piano, so he hid it in the grass not far away and continued to play it on the way home from school. At the age of 17, he was already a famous pianist. Later, he married Pu Mingying, a girl from the same village. Pu Mingying not only has a beautiful life, but also sings and dances well and has a good heart. After getting married, the husband and wife worked together on household chores when they were busy with farming, and played the piano and danced in their spare time.
However, the "Quzuo Incident" in the "Cultural Revolution" in 1968 interrupted Ajiawen's path of national folk music. The so-called "Quzuo Incident", Ajiawen explained, was when the Yi boys from Quzuo Village invited girls from a nearby village in Tonghai County to sing, dance and eat fire tobacco in Quzuo Village. However, this beautiful Yi custom is regarded as an immoral national bad custom.
Therefore, ethnic folk music disappeared in Quzuo Village, which is rich in ethnic culture, and Ajiawen, an excellent Yi piano player, was ordered to "make up for his faults and atone for his sins". During the day, he went to the fields with the women to do farm work, and at night he played the erhu for the "Revolutionary Thought Literature and Art Propaganda Team".
After the reform and opening up, Ajiawen was reborn and picked up the ukulele again.
Later, he won the second prize in the National Folk Musical Instrument Competition. In the mid-1980s, Tian Feng, a professor at the Central Conservatory of Music for Nationalities, went to Quzuo Village to collect music, and after listening to his performance, he was full of praise: "I have been to many Yijia cottages, and I have also heard many ukulele players play. , and Ajiawen's playing level is of international level."
In 1993, Professor Tian Feng founded the Yunnan Ethnic Culture Training Center in Kunming, and A Jiawen was hired as a teacher. He tried his best to teach the ukulele skills to the students, and trained many excellent players. During his 10 years in the Chuanxiu Center, A Jiawen has participated in more than 20 competitions held in Beijing, Hong Kong and other places, and his superb performance skills have impressed many audiences at home and abroad.
At the end of 2001, he was recruited by the famous artist Yang Liping into the "Yang Liping Dance School" as a pianist who taught the ukulele skills.
Today, A Jiawen, who has been obsessed with ukulele all his life, has won many nicknames given to him by the Yi family: "Master of Four Strings", "Boss of Four Strings", "International Folk Artist" and so on. The CD produced for him by Yunnan Tianfeng Audio-Video Production Co., Ltd. has also been launched, making him the first local musician to produce and publish a CD of the ukulele among the 7 million Yi population in the country. The Honghe State Party Committee and the State People's Government also awarded him the honorable title of "Honghe State Folk Culture Artist".
