Chen Hongyan was born in Dajiang Town, Taishan City, Guangdong Province in 1948. He grew up in the countryside and was deeply influenced by music. In his youth, he was enlightened by Mr. Chen Pinhao and became famous for his flute skills.
At the age of 22, he graduated from the Dizi major of Guangzhou Conservatory of Music. He came to Hong Kong in 1979 and applied for the position of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra as a flute player. He tried to perform with the troupe in Australia, Singapore, Beijing and Taiwan. In May 1990, at the invitation of the Macao Cultural Association, he went to perform in Portugal.
Chen Jun learns the flute, and always adheres to the attitude of "learning endlessly" and "seeking for perfection". Therefore, in recent years, he has tried several times to go north to Hangzhou to learn from flute master Zhao Songting. Zhou Linsheng and others made friends, and they discussed each other's studies, and their attainments improved. During his studies, Chen Jun often represented the Guangdong performing arts industry at the "China Export Commodities Fair" as a flute soloist, which was well received. In 1986, he cooperated with the Pan-Asian Symphony Orchestra many times to perform the large-scale Chinese flute concerto "Going West".
In July 1988, he participated in the "Zhang Xiaofeng Works Concert" conducted by Mr. Ma Wen to perform the flute concerto "Three Chapters of Poetry Rhythm", which was refreshing; his excellent and skilled skills were highly praised by the music industry, and the newspapers once called him "smart" "Elegant" was praised; Mr. Zhang Xiaofeng was so excited after the concert that he wrote a poem as a gift: "Three chapters of poetry and rhyme meet talented people, and Hongyan's song will startle four people. There are thousands of miles away from mountains, and there are bosom friends everywhere in the world." Sincerely a good story in the music world; in August 1989, Chen Jun participated in the "Jiang Nanchun - Sixty Years of Lu Chunling's Flute Art" concert conducted by the head of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Huang Anyuan, and performed Lu's works "Past and Present" together with Master Lu Chunling. "The new look of the water town" was deeply appreciated by Lu's and music critics.
Chen Jun is currently a flute teacher at the Hong Kong Baptist College and the Academy for Performing Arts. He has contributed a lot to the training of young flute players.
