Gao Zicheng (1918-2010), a native of Gaozhuang, Wuli East, Yuncheng District, Shandong Province, is a famous performer and educator of Shandong Zheng School in my country.


At the age of eight, Mr. Gao learned to sing the Shandong Qinshu from his uncle, and at the age of 13, he learned to play the zither from Zhang Weima, a famous artist in Yuncheng area. With a humble and sincere desire for knowledge and a hungry learning spirit, he quickly learned the local qinshuqu and zheng music, which also made him benefit from more people on the way to learn zheng.

Teacher Wang Dianyu, a famous guzheng master in Shandong, is blind, but he is well-informed and enthusiastic about the cause of folk music. He introduces the folk entertainment form of folk self-play and self-play into charity performances for the relief of the people, benefiting the society and supporting the right path of education. During this period, Gao Zicheng followed Teacher Wang to perform in Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin and other places. In 1955, Gao Zicheng joined the army by chance and joined the General Political Art Troupe. This period gave him more opportunities to engage in performance creation activities. He went to Huairen Hall in Zhongnanhai, and went to Tiananmen Gate to perform for the head of the Central Committee again and again. He was praised and encouraged by Premier Zhou and foreign guests, so that his performance skills could be fully developed. At the same time, he also participated in the teaching of Zheng professional at the Central Conservatory of Music and Art. , which made Mr. Gao teach his skills to the students of music and art colleges for the first time, and started the collation and adaptation of Shandong zheng music with great enthusiasm.

During this period, he collected, organized and created representative zheng pieces "High Mountains and Flowing Water", "Fengxiang Song" and "Variations of the Same World". This is a shining point in Mr. Gao's artistic career. He embarked on a new artistic path from artistic practice - performance - teaching - editing and creation, and the zheng world in the 1950s produced results.
