Geng Tao, male, born in October 1960, is a professor, master tutor and assistant dean of the Music Performance Department of the School of Music of South China Normal University. He is a member of the Chinese Musicians Association, a director of the Chinese National Orchestra Society, and the vice chairman of the Bamboo Flute Professional Committee of the Guangdong Musicians Association. Director of teaching and management of the "2+2" undergraduate study abroad program at the School of Music of South China Normal University and the School of Music of the University of California, East Bay Campus. Head of the South China Region of the International Music Education and Research Program at CSU Stanislaos University in the United States.
In 1987, he graduated from Shandong Normal University with a bachelor's degree in music, majoring in music, and received a bachelor's degree in education; from 1993 to 1994, he studied in the postgraduate course of music education in the literature and art department of Shanghai Jiaotong University; in 2004, he studied at the Hamburg University of Music and Dramatic Art, Hamburg International Music College as a visiting scholar. From 1997 to 2005, he served as the head of the Music Department of Zhejiang Shaoxing College of Arts and Sciences, the vice president of Cai Yuanpei Art College, and the vice president of the School of Music. In 2003, he was exceptionally promoted to the title of professor. Now he is mainly engaged in bamboo flute performance, teaching and scientific research.
Published the monograph "On Chinese Bamboo Flute Music", the CD album "Selected Performances of Chinese Bamboo Flute Works" and the VCD teaching album "Famous Teachers Teach You to Learn Bamboo Flute". He has published more than 40 articles in magazines such as People's Music, Chinese Music, Musical Instruments, Xinghai Conservatory of Music and other magazines; published 13 bamboo flute works in Music Creation, Anthology of National Instrumental Music, etc. . He has won two second prizes for scientific research achievements in colleges and universities in Zhejiang Province, and one second prize for the 6th Excellent Teaching Achievement Award of South China Normal University. Won the 2009 "Shanghai Spring" International Music Festival National Bamboo Flute Invitational Competition Outstanding Teacher Award; Guangdong Province Second College Student Art Exhibition Outstanding Instructor Award. He has served as a jury member for many international instrumental music competitions.
Since 2001, he has been invited six times to give lectures at music universities in Edinburgh, Amber Valley, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Copenhagen, Odense, Vienna, Austria, etc., and hold bamboo flute solo concerts. He has performed with the Odense Youth Symphony Orchestra of Denmark and the Ur Youth Symphony Orchestra of Germany for many times, and has been reported by many domestic and foreign radio stations, newspapers, magazines and other media.
In May 2009, student Ma Qiang won the Gold Award in the Youth Group B of the National Bamboo Flute Invitational Competition at the 2009 "Shanghai Spring" International Music Festival; in August 2008, students Ma Qiang, Luo Meng, and Wang Rongrong were selected to participate in the 1st National Bamboo Flute Invitational Competition in Xi'an by the Ministry of Culture. He was shortlisted for the semi-finals of the second "Wenhua Cup" National Art School National Instrumental Music Competition. In December 2008, students Ma Jiajie, Xiao Yayun and Feng Junjie won the first prize in the art performance of the professional group of the bamboo flute trio "Sound Poems of Water Village" in the 2nd Guangdong University Art Exhibition.
