Guo Junming, erhu performer, professor, head of the Folk Music Department of Shenyang Conservatory of Music. He is a member of the National Instrumental Music Examination Erhu Expert Committee of the Chinese Musicians Association, a director of the Liaoning Musicians Association and the deputy director of the National Music Committee.
When he was studying in Qinhuangdao No. 1 Middle School, he often performed Erhu solo pieces such as "Birds in the Sky" and "Backgammon". In 1959, he was admitted to the Shenyang Conservatory of Music Department of Folk Music, majoring in erhu. In 1963, he was selected to represent the Northeast Films in Shanghai to participate in the first national Erhu competition and won an award. After that, he participated in the first "Summer of Changchun" Art Festival and performed "Jianghe Water" and other songs. After graduating from Shenyang Conservatory of Music in 1964, he stayed on to teach. In 1979 and 1992, he held two solo recitals in Shenyang.
In 1979, he participated in the reform of the "cam-style double-pound erhu" and was successful, and performed as a gift for the first national science and technology conference. In 1993, he visited and performed in Japan. In August 2002, he served as the judge of the rematch of the youth professional group of the Erhu Competition of the Ministry of Culture. In May 2005, he served as the final judge of the youth professional group of the Beijing 'Zhonglu Cup' Erhu Competition. In 2001, he was hired as a professor of Erhu in the School of Arts of Northeastern University. In 2007, he and his son Guokang successfully held three concerts in Paris, France.
He composed and performed more than ten erhu solo pieces such as "Young Horse Shepherd" and "The Northeast Beautiful Scenery". In 1985, he recorded a cassette tape by Hong Kong Art Sound Records. There are octave exercises, changing tone etudes, etc., which are listed as the tenth-level repertoire of the national erhu test. Over the years, a large number of students have been trained. Among them, Li Aping participated in the '95 International National Instrumental Music Competition and won the first place in Erhu. He Hong participated in the National Ethnic Instrumental Music Competition and won the prize. Song Shihui, an erhu performer of the Liaoning Provincial Song and Dance Troupe, has a son who has lived in France for many years. He has toured around the world, and in 2016, Kokang was awarded the French Knights of Letters and Arts. Kokang is the first Chinese national musician and the first Chinese erhu performer to receive this honor.
