Introduction to He Baoquan(guzheng)Master performer

He Baoquan, from 1939 to June 2014, from Tianjin, is a famous Chinese guzheng performer, educator and reformer. He is currently a professor at Shanghai Conservatory of Music, president of the Oriental Guzheng Research Association, and director of the Shanghai Musicians Association.

When He Baoquan was 9 years old, he learned erhu, guzheng and flute with the late Chinese folk music master Wang Dianyu. After the age of 13, he devoted himself to learning the guzheng, and successively studied with Zhang Weizhao, a master of the Shandong zheng school, Cao Dongfu, a master of the Henan zheng school, Luo Jiuxiang, a master of the Hakka zheng school, and Zhao Yuzhai, Zhamsu, Wang Shengwu, Wang Xunzhi, Lin Maogen and other famous Chinese zheng masters. He studied at the Central Conservatory of Music, Tianjin Conservatory of Music and Shenyang Conservatory of Music, majoring in guzheng.

After graduating in 1961, he served as a guzheng teacher at Tianjin Conservatory of Music and Shanghai Conservatory of Music. In his professional teaching and performance career for many years, he has carefully studied the performance techniques and musical styles of the major art schools of Guzheng. He has formed his own unique and successful guzheng teaching method and simple, elegant and emotional playing style.

Published more than ten papers such as "Some Thoughts on Developing Guzheng Professional Teaching Syllabus" and "Zheng Performance Mechanics"; edited and published more than ten book scores such as "Chinese Guzheng Basic Course", "Chinese Guzheng Course" and "Chaozhou Zheng Song Collection" He has published more than 20 audio-visual products at home and abroad; he has visited Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong and other countries and regions for many times to hold concerts, academic lectures and serve as judges for Chinese musical instrument competitions.

He designed and developed butterfly-style zheng, series of zheng, and established the first zheng ensemble in China. "Butterfly Zheng" won the second prize of Chinese Cultural and Scientific Achievement Award.

He has cultivated a large number of guzheng performance and teaching talents at home and abroad. In 1997, he was the lecturer and the writer was recorded by Shanghai Cable TV. Shanghai Video Company published and distributed a series of 12 guzheng teaching video discs "Chinese Guzheng Course", which was awarded by the National Press and Publication The third prize of "National Excellent Audio-visual Products" issued by the General Administration and the Ministry of Education. Artistic achievements have been included in "Who's Who in the World", "Who's Who in Chinese Literature and Art in the World", "Chinese Expert Celebrity Dictionary"
