At the age of ten, he began to learn to play suona from his uncle, and then to learn sheng and flute. At the age of thirteen, he has fully mastered the above three instruments, and began to lead the drum class, while continuing to study suona and flute. At the age of sixteen, his suona, bamboo flute, and sheng skills surpassed those of the old players in the drum class and leapt to the top of the class. In 1954, Ren Tongxiang also visited India, Indonesia, Myanmar and other countries with the Chinese cultural delegation. Every time he played, he was highly praised, and he was awarded the gold medal by the Myanmar state.Since then, Ren Tongxiang has successively visited countries and regions such as the former Soviet Union, Poland, North Korea, the German Democratic Republic, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan.
