Born in Chongqing on August 22, 1940, his father, Shi Fuliang, was an early leader of the Communist Youth League, and his mother was from Jiangjin. Shi Guangnan returned to his hometown in Dongye Village, Yuanyuan, in 1948 to attend elementary school, and graduated from elementary school in Jinhua City in 1949. After liberation, he moved to Beijing with his parents and began to study composition under the influence of his father. After graduating from high school in 1957, he was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music by exception. His main works include: Piano Concerto in C minor, String Quartet "Youth", Orchestra Small Ensemble "The Little Girl Playing Butter Tea", and violin solo "Riverside of Ruili". Award-winning works include: "Toast Song" won the first-class creation award for the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the first place in the selection of the audience's favorite radio songs in 1980, and was selected by UNESCO and the Asian Cultural Center as the recommended among Asian teenagers Songs; Zhu Fengbo's "White Feather Sending Affectionate Love" won the award in the audience's favorite radio song selection; "Turpan's Grapes Are Ripe" won the award in the excellent mass song selection sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and the China Music Association in 1980; "Send the Good News Home" won the Outstanding Creation Award at the 3rd Military Art Festival. Died on May 2, 1990, at the age of 49.
On December 18, 2018, Shi Guangnan was awarded the title of Reform Pioneer by the Party Central Committee and the State Council, awarded the Reform Pioneer Medal, and was awarded the title of "Musician who composes the hymn of reform and opening up".
