Wang Min (November 8, 1934 - December 5, 1997), composer. Shanghainese. Before his death, he served as the first-level composer of the China Symphony Orchestra, the executive vice-chairman and secretary-general of the China Light Music Society, and the editor-in-chief of Music Life News.
In 1934, Wang Min was born in a poor flower farm family on the outskirts of Shanghai. Due to his poor family background, he went out to work with his brother since he was a child. My father used the money from flower sales to pay Wang Min to finish primary school on and off.
In 1947, his family situation improved, and he had the opportunity to be admitted to Shanghai Jiaotong Middle School. At school, he began to be exposed to music from anti-starvation, anti-Civil War singing activities.
When Shanghai was liberated in 1949, he was sent to the training spot organized by the Youth Art Troupe to learn music theory, composition and conducting. Since then, he has embarked on the road of music. His first song "Going to the South to Join the Army" won the first prize in the Shanghai Student Singing Competition at that time.
In 1953, after graduating from high school, he was unable to be admitted to the Conservatory of Music due to illness, but he did not give up his pursuit of music.
From 1954 to 1959, he served as a teacher of the Central Primary School in Jing'an District. During this period, he participated in the amateur creation class for workers and the study at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music Night University, and published music works such as the mixed chorus "Come to Listen to Lovers Sing Folk Songs". Hard work, persistent pursuit.
In 1959, Wang Min was admitted to the Composition Department of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music with honors. In the five years of college life, Wang Min not only studied Chinese and foreign music theory systematically, but also studied ethnic and folk music assiduously, which laid a solid foundation for his future music style.

In 1953, he studied composition theory with Chen Mingzhi, studied composition at the Shanghai Workers' Cultural Palace Music Composition Class, and studied piano at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music Night University.
In 1959, he entered the composition department of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and studied under Ding Shande. After graduating in 1964, he joined the composition group of the Central Orchestra to engage in music creation.
