Yang Jing, a native of Wuhan, Hubei, is a famous pipa player and a postgraduate tutor at the China Conservatory of Music. He is the vice president of the Pipa Professional Society of the Chinese Musicians Association, the vice president of the Pipa Professional Committee of the Chinese National Orchestra Society, the academic leader of Beijing higher education institutions, the evaluation committee of the national vocational skills appraisal, the head of the Forbidden City Chamber Orchestra, and the Yang Jing Pipa Chamber Orchestra. Yang Jing began to study Liuqin and Pipa with his father Liu Shiben when he was six years old. In 1977, he entered the Middle School Attached to Wuhan Conservatory of Music, under the tutelage of Professor Zhou Qian and Fang Bingyun. In 1982, he studied at the China Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Professor Liu Dehai, a famous contemporary pipa master. In 1986, he graduated with honors and was recommended as an exempted pipa graduate student. In 1988, he successfully held a graduate graduation recital, completed an academic thesis, and obtained a master's degree, becoming the first pipa graduate student trained by Professor Liu Dehai.
Yang Jing's performance pursues simple natural beauty, pursues the unity of form and spirit, and under the premise of mastering comprehensive techniques, pays attention to the combination of rigidity and softness, so that the music is full of layers. Therefore, her pipa style is full of tenderness and graceful elegance. Whether interpreting traditional music or interpreting modern works, her performance has a strong artistic appeal and is a leader among young pipa players.
