Zhan Zhijun (1890-1973), courtesy name Chengqiu, no. Shuiyunzi, Meiyun Pavilion, alias "Xiangyang scholar". His ancestral home is Xiangyang, Hubei, and he was a librarian of Shandong Provincial Institute of Literature and History during his lifetime. "Zhucheng School" violinist. He has served as the Chinese language tutor of Jinan Municipal High School, the vice chairman of the first council of Shandong Musicians Association, and a member of the Shandong Political Consultative Conference. He is one of the founders of Jinan Guqin Research Association.
Zhan Chengqiu is the fourth-generation descendant of the Zhucheng Qin School and a master of modern Guqin music. He loved guqin all his life and made immortal contributions to the guqin music career of Shandong Zhucheng School.
Zhan Chengqiu's qin originated from the Lushan School. In the Xuantong year of the Qing Dynasty, he taught himself 12 pieces including "Ciction from Homecoming" while studying at home school. In 1912, he studied eighteen pieces including "High Mountain", "Daffodils", "Xiaoxiang" and "Qiuhong" under the tutelage of Wang Xinkui, a qin master of the Zhucheng School of Shandong. In the winter of 1921, Wang Xinkui died in his hometown. Since then, there has been no teacher, and he has studied and practiced the guqin by himself for 30 years. In the long-term performance practice, he has high artistic accomplishment and profound artistic attainments.
Zhan Chengqiu's playing style inherits Wang Xinkui's tradition as a whole. It has the characteristics of broad rhythm, sonorous and powerful, gorgeous and solemn, rough and unrestrained, firm and simple, and the combination of rigidity and softness. It has the typical Shandong style. His qin skills are recorded in Yuan Yeru's letter in "Jin Yu Qin Journal": "Zhan Gong was the king of Zhucheng's Xinkui, and there was a saying at that time that 'green comes out of blue'." It can be seen that his qin skills are superb.
