Zhang Dianying is a national first-class composer, former vice president and secretary general of the Chinese National Orchestra Society, and former artistic director of the China Film Orchestra. In 1992, the State Council awarded him the title of "Expert who has made outstanding contributions to culture and art". Zhang Dianying was born in Linyi City, Shandong Province in 1939. In 1959, he was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music to study folk music composition. In the spring of 1964, he was transferred to the Composition Department of China Conservatory of Music to study. In 1965, he graduated from the Composition Department of China Conservatory of Music and stayed there to teach. In 1973, he was transferred to the music studio of the Central News and Documentary Film Studio, engaged in the creation of news and documentary film music. In 1978, he was transferred to the studio of the China Film Orchestra and engaged in professional composition.
During his decades of professional composition, Mr. Zhang Dianying has composed music for many films and TV dramas such as "The Road to Mount Huashan Since Ancient Times", "Tanzan Railway", "The New Saleswoman" and "The Song of War Has Not Gone". He has also composed more than 200 vocal and instrumental pieces.
Among them, his national symphonic poem "Yue Fei" won the award at the 3rd National Music Works Awards jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Radio and Television, and the Chinese Musicians Association; his chorus "The National Flag and the Sun Rises Together" , won the second prize in the "Motherland Advances" singing competition held by the Central People's Broadcasting Station; the episode "Bridge Workers Miss Chairman Mao" written for the film "Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge" was once widely sung in China; The film "Huashan has been a road since ancient times" won two awards at international film festivals; the TV series "The New Saleswoman" for which he composed won the third China TV Drama Awards.
Since the 1980s, Mr. Zhang Dianying has continuously written the Erhu Concerto "Mother", the Pipa Concerto "Nationality", the Dahu Concerto "Life", the Guanzi Solo "Soul", the Guzheng Solo "Heart", and the National Orchestra "Celebrating the Festival with Songs and Dances".
