Born in a suona family, he graduated from the Tianjin Conservatory of Music in 1983 and is currently a soloist and chief suona vocalist of the Tianjin Chinese Orchestra. His playing style is sincere and simple, delicate and touching, and full of passion. At the same time, he himself has a more perfect interpretation and unique artistic insight on the connotation of the music.
Zhao Cuncai has won the second prize of the "First National Folk Instrumental Solo Observation and Performance" hosted by the Ministry of Culture, and the Outstanding Suona Solo Performance Award of the "Fulitong Cup International Chinese Folk Instrumental Solo Competition". He has visited more than a dozen countries and regions, including Japan, South Korea, Austria, Germany, the United States, Italy, Taiwan, etc. In January 2005, Zhao Cuncai performed at the Musikverein in Vienna and Germany; in October of the same year, he performed with the troupe in Rome, Italy; in June 2006, he performed at the Sydney Opera House in Australia, Melbourne and other places, and was widely praised by Chinese and foreign audiences and experts.
