Zhao Lei, 6-year-old learns the piano under the tutelage of Lin Xinming, Huo Yonggang and Wang Yongde, and graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. In addition to specializing in qin art, he also devoted himself to studying the development history of Chinese folk music. He integrated, sorted out, and lectured the "Chinese Folk Music Vertical and Horizontal Talk" series of folk music courses. He introduced the development process of Chinese folk music through the "longitudinal" of the chronological style, and through the chapter-hui style. The "horizontal" presents the musical instruments, works and music masters of the Chinese nation in various periods.

Since 2007, Zhao Lei has premiered the Erhu Concerto "A Hundred Years of Thoughts" at the Hong Kong City Hall, and performed solo at the "Chinese Erhu Master Classics Concert" at the National Centre for the Performing Arts. , Solo performance in the 10th "MORI World Music Festival" in Hiroshima, Japan.

In May 2013, he was invited to act as the composition, arrangement and solo of the opening program "Erhu Unlimited Movement" of the "66th Cannes Film Festival - China Night", becoming the first Chinese folk music performer to appear on the stage of an international film festival;8 He was invited to Taiwan by the "Shanghai-Taipei Twin Cities Sharing Art Festival", and successfully held the "Erhu without boundary" concert in one of the important landmarks of Taipei City, the Concert Hall of the Chung Cheng Cultural Center.

On February 2, 2022, he participated in the "China Dream My Dream 2022 China Online Audio-Visual Annual Ceremony", and played the erhu in the AR stage show "What a Beautiful Jasmine Flower".
