Bagediudong overview

Bagediudong

Bage Diudong (pinyin: bā gé diū dōng), also known as bark pulling pipe, is a Miao fringe air-sounding musical instrument, popular in Longlin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Bag Diu Dong is composed of a bark tube and a wooden pole. The same thin branch is used as the material. It is better to choose the one with uniform thickness and straight pole. It is self-made for private use, and the specifications and sizes are not fixed. Generally, the length of the tube is 13 cm to 16 cm, the outer diameter is 1.5 cm, and the inner diameter is 1 cm.

The tone is crisp and high-pitched, similar to the whistle, and is deeply loved by the majority of Miao youth and children. Whenever going up to the mountains for grazing or taking a break in labor, one can easily make a bagodon, which can be played for self-entertainment and to disperse fatigue. Solo pieces include "Miao Shan Huan" and so on.
