Bangbang (pinyin: Bàng bàng) is a national musical instrument, popular in Baise and other western Guangxi regions of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the vast rural areas of Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province.
Made of hard miscellaneous wood, it is a cylindrical rod-shaped body with a length of about 50 cm and a diameter of about 4 cm. The outer surface of the bar is decorated with various colored circular stripes. Two are a pair, mainly used for the accompaniment of the Zhuang folk song and dance "Bangbang Lamp".
When playing, the player holds a stick in each hand, lifts the stick over the head and strikes, or strikes behind, left and right, up and down, or strikes across legs, jumps, and turns in circles. Flexible, rhythm-rich, endless changes. Although the stick has no fixed pitch, the sound is crisp and pleasant.
