Bijian

Jian Jian (pinyin: bì jiàn) is a single-reed gas-sounding instrument of the Zhuang people. It is popular in Fangcheng Autonomous County of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Jian Jian's tube body is made of bamboo, mostly made of small green bamboo grown locally. The tube is 20 cm long, with a bamboo joint at the upper end and an open lower end, with an outer diameter of 1 cm and an inner diameter of 0.7 cm.

Jian Jian's tone is high-pitched, bright, and loud. For solo or ensemble, good at playing warm and cheerful music. The Zhuang people always play the jijian on festivals or weddings and other festive occasions. The music has no fixed tune, and most of them are folk songs or minor keys, and are often played improvisationally. The performers are mostly women.
