Bilangbulang (pinyin: bì lǎng bù làng) is a single-reed gas-sounding instrument of the Kemu people. It is popular in the areas where the Kemu people live in Mengla and Jinghong, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province.
"筚langbulang" is a phonetic translation of Kemu, meaning flute, which is a unique wind instrument of Kemu people. The tube body is made of bamboo, which is made of five to seven bamboo tubes of different lengths and thicknesses. It is very similar to the Lilie of the Li nationality.
The tone of the piccolo is bright and mellow, and the tone of the flute is plump and rich. It can be used for solo or ensemble. It is a self-entertainment musical instrument commonly used by Kemu people. Sometimes it is also used in the love life of young men and women. When a young man is dating a girl, he often plays the melodious Qilangbulang. The music includes "Love Tunes" and so on.
