Jilu (pinyin: bì lǔ), also known as Hongbai, Buja, Caoshan, Zhixiao, is a single-reed gas-sounding instrument of the Yi and Lahu nationalities. It is popular in Chuxiong, Yongren, Yaoan and other places in Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province.
Jilu, whose name is Yi transliteration, is derived from the sound onomatopoeia of musical instruments.
Jilu tube body is made of bamboo, and the folks mostly use local mangosteen to make it. There are bamboo knots at the head and transparent tail. There are also made from reeds. Specifications vary, usually divided into two types, one is thin and short, and the other is long and thick.
