Dilie (pinyin: dí liè) is a clarinet gas-sounding instrument of the Li nationality. Popular in the areas of Baoting and Tongshi in Hainan Province, it is made of bamboo pipes with bamboo knots at the beginning.
The tone of Die is similar to that of Bau, and it maintains the original characteristics. Can be used for solo, ensemble or accompaniment. Good at playing lyrical music. The keyed flute column has also entered the elegant hall of national music and has become a solo instrument with rich Li nationality characteristics.
Di Lie has a very close relationship with the production and labor of the Li family. In the old days, when the rice was blooming, it was used to play beautiful and pleasant tunes, praying for good weather and rain, so that the rice would ripen quickly and get a bumper harvest. When the ploughing is not finished and the rice is not heading, it is not allowed to play the flute, otherwise it will suffer from natural disasters such as wind, water, insects, and beasts. Today, the taboos of these feudal superstitions have long been broken. The flute has become the favorite folk musical instrument of the Li people.
