Dolo overview

Dolo Doluo (pinyin: duō luò) is a bow and stringed musical instrument of the Dai people. Popular in Menglian Dai, Lahu and Wa Autonomous County and Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture in Simao, Yunnan Province

The body of the piano is shorter and smaller than that of Xi Ding, with a total length of 60 cm to 65 cm. The piano tube is made of coconut shell, bamboo tube or wood. Shaped like a zhonghu, with a mellow tone, it is used for solo, ensemble or accompaniment.

The performance is performed in a sitting position, with the qin tube placed on the left leg, the left hand holding the qin to press the strings, and the right hand holding the ponytail bow to play. Doluo with the bow hair sandwiched between the two strings has the same bow and fingering as the erhu; Dolo with the bow hair on the outside of the two strings has the same bowing and playing method as the Xi Ding, that is, the bow is played with an inverted ponytail. Dai youth often entertain themselves or sing by themselves.
