The dragon head sanxian (pinyin: lóng tóu sān xián) is a plucked stringed musical instrument of the Bai people. Because the qin jewelry is named after the dragon head, it is called Xiongzijia in Bai language. It is popular in Jianchuan, Heqing, Eryuan, Dali, Yunlong, and Lanping, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province.
The dragon head sanxian is mostly made by folk woodcarving craftsmen. Not only are the dragon heads decorated with colorful paintings, but some are also carved with patterns on the frame, making the Bai nationality dragon head three strings not only a folk musical instrument that can be played, but also an exquisite handicraft for viewing and collection. It is composed of box, headstock, piano rod, peg, bridge and strings. The size of the piano body is different, the overall length of the large piano body is 90 cm to 100 cm, and the total length of the small piano body is 70 cm to 80 cm.
When playing, you can take a sitting or standing position, hang the strap around your neck, place the violin body horizontally around your waist, and place the violin case near the right crotch or right thigh, and the head of the violin is inclined to the upper left. Hold the piano rod in the tiger's mouth of the left hand, press the strings with the index finger, middle finger and ring finger to pick up the sound, and the right index finger covers the hollow conical horn tip or ties a bamboo pick to pluck the strings to pronounce.
In the left hand, there are portamento, kneading, beating, and chord playing methods, often using large-scale "slide kneading" techniques; Longtou Sanxian is mainly used for Bai rap and folk song accompaniment, but also for solo or ensemble.
