Meidu

Meidu (Pinyin: měi dū) is a single-reed gas-sounding instrument of Kucong people. Popular in the Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province.

The Meidu tube body is made of bamboo, and the folks mostly use the local fine bamboo. The tube is as thin as a pen, with a bamboo joint at the beginning of the tube, and the tube body to the end of the tube is transparent.

The pronunciation of Meidu is full and rich, and the tone is deep and soft with the tone of Bau. He is good at playing mellow, subtle and deep tunes, with rich expressiveness and strong local flavor. It can be used for solo performance or to accompany love songs. It is an inseparable folk instrument in the social and love life of Kucong young people. Most of the tunes come from folk folk songs and minor tunes, such as "Dagu Da" and "Yelala".
