Taiping Xiao (pinyin: tài píng xiāo), also known as Zhanbendu, Zhanpalai, Zhanshe, is a musical instrument of the Miao ethnic group, which is popular in Baoshan area of Yunnan Province, Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Zhaotong area and Bijie area of Guizhou Province.
Taiping Xiaoxiao tube is made of bamboo, with no joints in the middle, transparent at both ends, thick at the top and thin at the bottom. The length of the tube is 90 cm, the outer diameter of the upper nozzle is 3 cm, and the inner diameter is 2.4 cm. The back of the pipe head is trimmed obliquely to make it semi-arc, and the remaining front side pipe wall is broken down into two layers along the bamboo pattern, and thin bamboo strips are sandwiched on both sides of the middle, and they are fastened with ropes and coated on the outside. The sound of the Taiping Xiao is similar to that of the Dong Xiao, soft and deep. Often used for solos. Good at playing euphemistic lyrical, melancholy and sad tunes. Traditional music includes "Orphan Tune", "Sanxin Tune", "Love Song Tune" and "Ancient Song Tune".
