taozhong overview

taozhong Pottery bell (Pinyin: Táo zhōng) is a simplified ceramic musical instrument with a handle. When using it, hold the bell handle in one hand, and strike the bell body with a stick or mallet in the other hand to make a sound. There are very few pottery bells in archaeological discoveries, and its shape is very close to the bronze musical instrument nao of the Shang Dynasty, so some people call it "pottery bell".
It is said that the ancestors used to sacrifice to the gods, mountains, lakes, wind and rain, stars, and to pray for wind and rain, so it is actually a kind of "ritual device". It was later replaced by a bronze cymbal. It is now in the collections of the National Museum and the Ancient Bell Museum of Beijing Dazhong Temple.
