Tongxiao

Tongxiao (pinyin: tǒng xiāo), a Korean fringe air musical instrument, is popular in Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang and other provinces, especially in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture.

It has a long history and has been circulated among the people as early as the 7th century AD. According to historical records, at the beginning of the Korean Goryeo Dynasty (919-1392 AD), the flute has been used in the "Tangbu" music of court music, and it has been handed down to this day.

The pipe body of the tube flute is made of bamboo, and it is advisable to select one to seven sections from the bottom of the bamboo upwards. In the past, hollow wood has also been used more. The total length is 70 cm to 74 cm, the outer diameter of the upper end is 3.6 cm, the outer diameter of the lower end is 4.3 cm, and the inner diameter is 2 cm. Square Membrane Hole Cover. There are five sound holes below the membrane hole (four in the front and one in the back), and a sound hole at the bottom. Each bamboo joint outside the tube is tied with black filament rope to prevent the tube wall from cracking.
