Guqin is one of the oldest plucked Musical Instruments in China, with a history of more than 3,000 years. It is the most exalted musical instrument in ancient China and is listed as the first of the four arts of "Qin, chess, calligraphy and painting". The guqin, with its wide vocal range, deep timbre and long aftertone, was selected as a world intangible cultural heritage in 2003.

The influence of Guqin music on the human heart has been continuous for thousands of years. In 2008, the guqin performance at the Beijing Olympic Games amazed the world and promoted the guqin craze. What Zhang Zisheng has been trying to do is to use what he has learned and felt to leave something for the future spread of Guqin.
Zhang Zisheng began to learn the qin in 1989, under the tutelage of Jinmen Jiuyi school, Mr. Gao Zhongjun, Mr. Li Yunzhong, and then successively sought lessons from Liu Li, Wu Wenguang, Gong Yi, Li Xiangting and many other famous masters. In 1992, he won the highest prize in Hangzhou International Guqin Invitational Competition. In order to make himself involved in many excellent, he also asked in Jinmen ci writers Zhang Mushi, Cao Changhe, Wang Huanyong, calligraphy master Mr. Yu Mingshan and other predecessors. He is currently the vice president and secretary-general of the Guqin Professional Committee of China Musical Instrument Association and a member of the Guqin Art Examination Expert Steering Committee of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
"This is my second visit to Lanzhou. Now the art of guqin is flourishing in major cities all over the country, and the guqin style is also flourishing, and the development and progress of Lanzhou is also remarkable." Zhang Zisheng told reporters: "The folk customs of Lanzhou city are rough and bold and sincere and simple, just like the Yellow River that passes through the city here, condensing a very strong traditional cultural atmosphere." It is understood that Zhang Zisheng's trip also brought a sincere "great gift" for the development of Lanzhou's art, that is, let the seven-stringed Qin Institute officially settled in Lanzhou Old Street, and entrusted it to his best disciple Wang Fangyan in Lanzhou. Qixian Qin Institute was founded in 1999, the general institute is located in Tianjin, is a set of guqin teaching, guqin operation, guqin master, guqin sales, concert performance, musical creation as one of the comprehensive Guqin cultural inheritance base, there are more than 50 branches in the country.
"How to make this ancient instrument radiate new artistic vitality has become a new topic in front of contemporary piano people."
