On June 30, in Shijia Village, Wuyi County, Hengshui City, Hebei Province, Shi Guolin, the inheritor of Guolin Guqin production skills, is making Guqin.
Guqin is one of the oldest traditional plucked stringed instruments in China, with a history of more than 3,000 years. A good guqin requires the luthier to examine the wood, open the shape, modify the shape, cut the belly, audition, close the piano, assemble the parts, apply the primer (paint on the wood), wrap the cloth, apply the coarse ash, and apply the middle. Hundreds of processes such as ash, fine ash, sanding, top varnishing, polishing, wiping, and stringing took two or three years to make. The guqin made in this way has the characteristics of wide range, rich timbre and long aftertaste.
In 2019, Wuyi County Guolin Guqin production skills project was included in the list of intangible cultural heritage of Hengshui City, Hebei Province. Shi Guolin's Guolin Qinshe currently has three series of "Guolin Qinqin", "Guolin Yashu" and ordinary lacquer guqin. The products are sold to more than 10 provinces and municipalities such as Beijing, Tianjin and Shijiazhuang.
