The Yi Sanxian Dance is a folk dance passed down from generation to generation by the Yi people, and the Yi people often dance it during leisure or fun. Different regions and different branches of Yi people have different names for the sanxian dance. The sanxian dance spread in Axi Yi district is called "Axi dancing the moon", and the sanxian dance spread in Sani Yi district is called "Sani Da Sanxian". Sanxian dance is a group dance, both men and women can participate, but only the men use the three-stringed chords, and the women only dance to the rhythm. The Yi Sanxian dance is divided into two types: big sanxian dance and small sanxian dance. Young people dance with big sanxian, so it is called "big sanxian dance"; middle-aged and old people dance with smaller sanxian dance, so it is called "small sanxian dance". ". Most of the Yi people living in the Shilin and Qiubei areas of Yunnan are Sani people. According to legend, a long time ago, there was a Sani girl who was like a flower and jade and fled to avoid the Tusi's forced marriage. Dancing around them, to form a husband and wife with fire as a proof, thus forming the Sanxian dance of Sani. In addition to this, there is also a saying that the Sani people jumped on the burned land to grab crops, which later developed into the Sanxian of Sani.

The big sanxian is the main musical instrument of the Sani people for entertainment and lyricism. It is very simple to make. First, a piece of toon tree is chiseled into a circular hollow, and one end is covered with goat skin, and then the more than one meter long green pine tree is processed into a sanxian rod. With three middle leather threads, the big three strings can be made. Every night, the whistle rang crisply, the golden flutes blared in unison, the tight and urgent strings sounded rough and neatly, the young men and women danced opposite each other to the melody of "1, 3, 5", taking three steps and one foot, At the same time, it was accompanied by singing and the voice of "oh oh", together with the sound of strings and applause, it formed a cheerful and passionate sound.

Now all the Sani families in the Shilin area have big sanxian, and everyone can dance the big sanxian dance.
