Lingtai suona first appeared on occasions such as marriage, funerals, village temple fairs, celebrations, etc. It was performed by a drum group composed of suona artists. There was no fixed number of people, ranging from two to a dozen. Generally, members of the band will play more than two musical instruments, which can be arbitrarily adjusted as needed without changing the personnel.
Lingtai suona tunes absorb traditional opera music elements such as Qin Opera, Long Opera, Meihu Opera, Wanwan Opera, etc. Most of them are based on loneliness and loneliness, and the rhythm is relatively free and slow. Mainly include: "Lana Arrives Home" (this piece of music is used for suona class to play and enter the main house), "Hou Ke" (this piece of music is used to welcome the arrival of the dead), "Pick up the guest", "Incense stick to worship the gods" "To the Sky", "Sacrificing the Spirit", "Hanging Filial Piety", "Burning Paper", "Crying and Mourning", "Dancing the Water" (upper and lower), "Liuqinya", "Goose Falling on the Beach", "Preliminary Dialogue", "Gong Diao" ", "Lying on Ice", "The Great Rescue", "Yongshou'an", etc.; there are also relatively relaxed folk minor tunes, such as "Embroidered Purse", "Pearl Upside Down Rolling Shutter", "Lan Yulian Carrying Water", "Spinning Thread" Line" etc.
Lingtai Suona was selected into the third batch of intangible cultural heritage list in Gansu Province in 2011. It has now announced 1 representative inheritor at the provincial level, 3 representative inheritors at the municipal level, and 1 representative inheritor at the county level. In addition, there are nearly 100 folk band artists and suona lovers who are engaged in the red and white suona performance.
