"Splash the bustling street with clean water, and greet the spring of my hometown with laughter and songs..." At 21:00 on December 24, the large-scale music, dance, poem and painting "Muqam Impression" was staged at the Muqam Art Troupe Theater of Xinjiang Art Theater.
Uygur Muqam art is a large-scale comprehensive musical art form integrating song, dance and pleasure. It was included in UNESCO's Representative List of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2005. Muqam Impression collects the most representative parts of the art, including twelve muqam, Turpan Muqam, Hami Muqam and Daolang Muqam. Through the expression forms of song, dance, poetry, playing and multimedia visual effect, it shows the enduring charm of Muqam art and the people inheriting the skills.
The performance is composed of parts such as "Preface", "Beautiful Legend", "The Call of the Heart", "Hot love" and "Happy Home", showing people's pursuit of beautiful love and happy life. With the aid of stage design and multimedia visual effects, performances such as Zhula, The Joy of Wedding, Lovers in the Moonlight and Turpan Percussion Dance took the audience to the Tianshan Ranch, Tarim River, Baza in southern Xinjiang, and cultural sites, showing the profound cultural connotation of Muqam art.
"Listening to the singer sing Muqam live is very shocking. The voice can be vast or pure, and you can really appreciate its thick." The audience simply said that the combination of song, dance and music works well together, which shows the important cultural value of Muqam as a comprehensive art form.
The magnificent feeling and modern atmosphere on the stage of Impression of Mukam came from the technical support of the School of Digital Media Arts of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. The design team made full use of the natural, cultural and folk materials collected in the north and south of the Tianshan Mountains. As large as the snow mountains and forests, Kashgar ancient City, Kuqa Old Street, Turpan Grape Ditch, as small as the carved gallery, paintings, costumes and utensils in a residential house, all became elements of the stage.
"The visual effect of the stage is very excellent. The elements belonging to Xinjiang are always in front of me, and the plot related to real life is always matched, so that I can see people's yearning for a better life, and their expectations for happiness and harmony." Audience member Ilamujiang Erken said the play is full of modern aesthetic ideas and integrated creative techniques.
The performance of national instruments is one of the highlights of Impression of Muqam. More than 30 musicians played the movements that touched the heartstrings of the audience with the help of Jewapu, dulcimer, suona, bamboo flute, Aechech, Satar, solitar, strummer, tabla and drum.
"I want to pay tribute to the players in the orchestra pit, who bring magnificent and uplifting music to the stage to enhance the performance of song and dance." Cao Yuting said that she learned to play Duttaer from folk artists when she was a volunteer teacher in southern Xinjiang, and now playing Duttaer is part of her spare time. She believes that everyone can be a inheritor of excellent traditional Chinese culture.
