The wooden stick qin is a percussion instrument of the Gaoshan people. The Ami tribe is called Kuokang. Popular in central Taiwan Province. The people of the Gaoshan and Amei tribes living in the central plains of Taiwan Province are engaged in farming. When the crops are ripe, a variety of birds will come to hunt and eat millet and rice.

The wise Amis tribesmen hang up dead wood sticks or dead bamboo poles and beat them to frighten and drive away the harmful birds. People strike different parts of the wooden stick to make sounds of different heights and lows, and it becomes a body-sounding instrument that can play tunes.
