Recently, the 10th Art Festival Instrumental Music and Singing Competition of Shiqiao Dongcheng Primary School in Panyu District was held in the school staircase. All the teachers and students of the school participated, fully demonstrating the fruitful achievements of the school's art school-based curriculum, vibrant, healthy and progressive spirit and extraordinary artistic skills. The whole game is divided into grades, and the repertoire is self-determined, which is both tense and exciting.
On the field, the students performed naturally, passionately and creatively. Various performances such as unison, lead singing + chorus, and recitation were combined, and various musical instruments such as cucurbit flute and ukulele performed many classic repertoires such as "Ode to Joy", "Spring Dawn", "Jasmine Flower" and "Moonlight on the Lotus Pond". The students' skillful performance skills and strong musical expression won bursts of applause from the audience. After a day of intense competition, 6 special prizes and 19 first prizes were finally selected.
Chen Bianxiong, vice-principal of Dongcheng Primary School, introduced that the school has introduced instrumental music courses since the 2019 school year. "We hope to give children an unforgettable stage performance experience by giving them a chance to master two musical instruments at the elementary level, improving their artistic literacy."
It is understood that playing cucurbit flute and singing ukulele is one of the characteristic courses of Dongcheng Primary School, and it has entered the music classroom of students as a school-based course. After the course started, the students loved this "grassroots" instrument. Currently, all students in grades two to six are proficient in playing one or two instruments. Instrumental music class is the favorite subject of students. From interest to liking to anticipation, every classmate can play it now. The development of this activity further enriched the cultural life of the campus, demonstrated the students' artistic talents, and stimulated the students' interest and hobbies in art.
