On June 21, 2022, the 2nd Temara Music Festival was held in Haroura, a historic seaside town in Morocco. China was invited as the guest of honor. The Rabat Chinese Cultural Center organized performers to participate in the performance and introduced Chinese folk music to the audience.
During the event, musicians from Morocco, China and other countries showcased different styles of ethnic music. As the opening guest, Chinese guzheng artist Chen Chao played three representative guzheng pieces from different eras for the audience. The famous guzheng song "Fisher Boat Sings Evening" shows the picture of fishermen singing under the sunset glow of the Jiangnan water town and the beautiful scenery of the seaside town's sunset melting gold and shimmering waves, which makes people feel very beautiful. Followed by the sonorous modern zheng piece "Fighting the Typhoon", the majestic musical tune and the artist's tense performance made the audience awe the heroic image of the stevedores bravely fighting the typhoon in the song. The finale was the well-known and euphemistic "Jasmine", which brought the audience into the great artistic enjoyment of the fragrant jasmine. Such a wonderful performance won warm applause from the audience.
Musicians from Morocco and other countries performed a range of modern ocean-themed repertoire and Gnawa music on guitar, oud and shamisen. Gnawa music is a musical form unique to Morocco and the Islamic countries of West Africa, combining ritual poetry with traditional music and dance.
Fatah Aixin, head of the EsMed Association, which organized the event, said that although it was the first time for him and most of the audience to know the traditional Chinese instrument, the guzheng, everyone was impressed by the superb performance of the performers. Impressed by the strong emotions conveyed by the art of piano. It is hoped that more Moroccan people can enjoy this wonderful musical instrument and try to perform with traditional Moroccan bands in the future.
The Temara Music Festival is sponsored by the Cultural Action Center of Mohammed V University, the School of Educational Sciences, and the EsMed Association. The theme of the festival is the ocean, paying tribute to the ocean, aiming to arouse the public's love for the ocean and the awareness of protecting the ocean.
