There is an erhu studio in the first district of Zhaohui, Hangzhou. The owner of the studio is He Dayuan, who is 79 years old this year. On October 1, 2019, He Dayuan's studio opened at a newsstand in front of Lianhua Supermarket on Hedong Road. This year, he was 75 years old.
Last summer, there was no longer a newsstand in the original location, so He Dayuan had to move out first. The staff of Liyuan Community, Zhaohui Street contacted He Dayuan and expressed their willingness to give the original Jinghu Studio in the community to him as a studio for free. He Dayuan was very happy.
Although the studio is not big, about 10 square meters, it is well-equipped, clean and tidy. Rows of erhus are neatly hung on the wall. What He Dayuan likes most is the dragon head on the Yuehu, carved in mahogany, which is vivid and imposing. In addition to wood, some special materials are also used to make erhu, such as snake skin for masking. He Dayuan told reporters that it takes about ten days to make a handful of erhus at the earliest, and only thirty erhus can be made a year at most.
In October 2018, He Dayuan was rated as the representative inheritor of Shengzhou intangible cultural heritage "Yuehu Making Skills". Today, there is still only He Dayuan in the studio. If there is a chance, he still hopes to bring an apprentice to pass on this craft. "This craft is difficult to learn, and the cost of making erhu is high, and it can't make money. Now There are few young people who want to learn, but if there are people who really want to learn, I am very willing to teach." He Dayuan said. "
