The bee drum has a long history. It is a slender drum spread in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It has the same origin as the Korean stick drum. In ancient times, it was not only called stick drum, but also called drum drum, Zheng drum and Wei drum (because it was commonly used in the Northern Wei Dynasty), and it has a history of more than a thousand years.
In the Southern Song Dynasty Fan Chengda's "Guihai Yuheng Zhi": "The waist drum of the Huaqiang came from Guizhitian Township, and its soil is particularly suitable for drumming. The villagers specially made them for kiln burning, and painted red patterns as decorations." Zhou Qufei "Lingwaidai" Answer": "The waist drum, the Jingjiang waist drum, has the most vocal tune and comes from Lingui's field township".
The use of ceramics to make bee drums has a long history, and it originated from the Tang Dynasty ceramic slender drums. The Songtian Township of Lingui recorded in the notes of the Song Dynasty is famous for firing the "waist drum" tune, which is called "kiln-fired tune". In its neighboring Yongfu County, Teng County, Rong County and other Song Dynasty kiln sites, intact kiln firing chambers have been unearthed. Compared with the modern folk bee drum, the middle drum is slightly longer.

Chen Yang's "Book of Music" in the Northern Song Dynasty described the shape, production and use of the drum: "...The big ones are made of tiles, and the small ones are made of wood, all of which have a broad head and a slender abdomen. Later generations called stick drums and beat drums, also called Wei drums. Every time a big tune is broken, it will be played together with the jie drum and the big drum, and its sound is harmonious and strong." In the music and dance relief sculptures of Wang Jian's tomb, there are dance music figures beating on a slender waist drum. The drum shape and playing method are very similar to those of the bee drum in Guangxi today.
