Turen is a fringe musical instrument of Jingpo, Lisu, Lahu and other ethnic groups. Regarding its origin, there are such legends circulating among Jingpo people.
A long time ago, there was a Jingpo peasant family who sent their two sons to guard the wadi, drive away wild animals and birds, and protect crops, but they all disappeared one after another. The farmer couldn't find his son, but heard the calls of the foraging monkeys and the cicadas in the forest, so they chopped bamboo, dug a hole in the middle, and played imitated tones to show that the wadi here is always guarded. The earliest torment. Since then, whenever the wadi is ripe, the children who go to the field to guard the crops will blow their burrows. On the banks of the picturesque Ruili River and Taiping River, in a quiet subtropical cottage, when the golden autumn arrives, there is a crisp sound of snoring wafting from every wadi, one after another, indicating the coming harvest.
