A native of Yongjia (now Pingyang, Wenzhou) in the Southern Song Dynasty, his representative work is "Xiaoxiang Water Clouds". His disciple is Liu Zhifang, and Liu Zhifang's disciples Mao Minzhong and Xu Tianmin compiled the "Zixiadong Qin Score". Four generations of Xu Tianmin's ancestors and grandsons were famous qin masters, and the Ming Dynasty respected him as "The True Story of Xumen". Later generations called the Zhejiang School's genealogy as "Zhepu". On June 7, 2008, the Guqin Art (Zhejiang Style) declared by Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province was approved to be included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.

There are as many as fifty kinds of piano scores.
