In 1958, Han Qihua, a national musical instrument maker from Shenyang Musical Instrument Factory, started the excavation of Konghou, the heritage of ancient northern ethnic musical instruments in my country.
He has consulted more than 70 relevant historical books and materials, collected more than 50 konghou patterns, visited and investigated the National Institute of Culture Protection Science and Technology, the Palace Museum, the Institute of Literature and Art of the Ministry of Culture (now the Music Institute of the China Academy of Arts) and More than 30 units including the Beijing Musical Instrument Research Institute and the older generation of musicians and musical instrument makers have a deeper understanding of the historical situation of Konghou.
In 1963, Han Qihua completed the design and production of the first draft of Konghou, but failed to receive the desired effect.
After 1975, he carried out the design and production of the second and third drafts. In accordance with the principle of "one imitation, two reforms, and three innovations" formulated by him, he continued to achieve results in the excavation and research work.
In 1978, after 20 years of research, exploration and experimentation, Han Qihua finally completed the design and production of his fourth draft of the Konghou, creating a brand-new double-stringed Konghou, which contributed to the development of my country's musical instrument industry.
