Yi nationality double-reed air-sounding instrument. It is popular in Nanhua and Shuangbai of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province and Nanjian Yi Autonomous County of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture.
The double-pipe muffler has a melodious pronunciation, a loud volume and a pastoral timbre, and is good at playing beautiful lyrical, euphemistic and pleasant tunes. Often used in solo, mostly for improvisation. You can also participate in instrumental ensembles or accompany folk songs.
Every spring ploughing season, the Yi family will play the muffled flute and start a year of work. When young men and women are in love and "playing songs", the young man uses a muffled flute to express his deep love to the girl he loves. Folk artists often describe the meaning of the words they want to express with the muffled flute, and dissolve their emotions into the music they play. In some occasions that are inconvenient to explain in words, the muffled flute is the spokesperson of the Yi family.
Traditional solo pieces include "Four Mountains Beating the Valley", "Crossing the Mountains" and "Welcome to Guests".
