Dadilong's tone is bright and full, with strong penetrating power. Can be used for solo, ensemble or accompaniment. It is deeply loved by the Buyi people. It is a musical instrument played by both young and old. It is often used to play for self-entertainment.
In Buyi Village, the melodious sound of Dadilong will be heard on occasions such as festivals, gatherings of relatives and friends, rushing to the market or hunting sparrows in the forest. The old people like to play in the Spring Festival or the first month, and express the joy of the year leisurely. Dadilong's music is rich, mostly from folk folk songs and minor tunes.
In 1984, at the first "Hao Huahong" music festival held in Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province, Chen Wenxing (Buyei) of Changshun County Cultural Center made the folk wind instrument Dadilong appear on the music stage for the first time. He played his own solo piece "The Shanzhai Guest Lai", the tune is beautiful and full of local flavor.
