A new piano is used in the hands of a player, and over time, the piano will gradually mature according to the player's "potential". Throughout the famous erhu players, they all have old pianos that have been used for many years. Although it is outdated, the sound is incomparable; and each person's piano reflects the timbre of the player, which is different.
This is the degree to which their instruments have reached the level of harmony with their masters. If another person plays the instrument, the sound will immediately deteriorate. Even if the players exchange instruments, the sound is not as good as playing their own piano.
There are also some high-quality Erhu Liu people who have been using them for many years in the hands of non-professionals, but their voices have never been cultivated. It can be seen from this. A good instrument needs to be carefully tuned by the player, not where it can be bought.
A player conditioning an erhu is like raising a child, loving it, "training" it, giving play to its strengths, avoiding its weaknesses, and trying not to let it make bad sounds.
As long as this erhu has good basic conditions (for example, the sound of the inner and outer strings is balanced, the sound quality of the upper and lower strings is smooth and loud, there is no blocking feeling, but it is not too sharp, the hand feel is good, etc.), after more than half a year of conditioning, it can gradually change. It has to fit well, and the pronunciation will get better and better.
In short, the conditioning and maintenance of the erhu is also an important part of the art of performance. The hard work you put into the instrument will eventually be rewarded.
