The Naxi Pipa is a plucked stringed musical instrument of the Naxi people. Popular in Lijiang Naxi Autonomous County, Yunnan Province. The appearance is similar to the pipa in the Han area, but the volume is larger and the speaker is relatively flat and thin, retaining the ancient shape.
Legend has it that during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1403-1424 AD), the Buddhist and Taoist silk-bamboo music of the Han nationality was introduced to Yunnan via Sichuan.
After the introduction of the Naxi people in Lijiang, the stringed musical instruments used by the band included the pipa, Erhuang (like Jinghu), Zhonghu and Xiaosanxian. In addition, in Dayan Town, Lijiang County, Zhang Kuiguang, a famous Naxi ancient music artist, uses a pipa handed down from the Qing Dynasty. It can be seen that the Pipa has a history of more than 200 years in the Naxi area.
