There are many kinds of cracks in Guqin, and there are cracks everywhere, but they can be roughly divided into two aspects: paint cracks and wood cracks.

If it is too dry, the paint surface will crack. The cracking position of the paint surface is uneven, and the paint surface of the entire piano body may crack.

The lacquer surface is generally cracked and the wood is not visible. Only when the lacquer surface is cracked to an abnormally serious level, it is possible to see the part of the piano wood. In the case of cracked paint, if it does not affect the normal playing, just moisturise the guqin.

Wood cracking is divided into two parts, one is the cracking of the body wood, and the other is the cracking of the guqin parts. The body includes the entire top and bottom plate, as well as the parts that connect the piano parts. Generally speaking, the panel, the connection between the panel and the bottom panel, and the part connected to the piano parts are relatively easy to crack. For example, the Yueshan of some pianos are inlaid into the panel, so it is very easy to crack. The parts of the piano include Yueshan and Chenglu, which are also parts that are prone to cracking.

Generally speaking, as long as it does not affect the timbre and feel when playing, there is no need to repair it. However, if the playing area is cracked, it will greatly affect the guqin itself, so it is better to repair it at this time. There is also a situation where the wood board is cracked, but the paint surface is not cracked. At this time, there will be faint lines on the paint surface, and it is better to repair at this time.

When maintaining the guqin, you must also take care of all parts. When applying the moisturizing cream, don't forget the details of the connection between Yueshan and Chenglu, the bond between the panel and the bottom plate, and so on.
