Guqin has high requirements on indoor temperature and humidity. In winter, the temperature and humidity plummet, and the guqin will be deformed or cracked if it is not properly maintained.
Don't get too close to the heater, it should not be exposed to direct sunlight for a long time, it should not be suddenly cold and hot, and it should not be kept outside and blowing cold air.
When the room is ventilated, the guqin can be put into the piano bag, and it is not suitable to expose it in a ventilated place for a long time. Because the wind in winter is relatively dry, it will increase the possibility of guqin cracking. The ambient humidity should be kept above 35% as much as possible, preferably 40%, not more than 50%. It is best to have hygrometers and humidifiers indoors in northern regions. If you don't have the conditions to turn on the humidifier for a long time at home, you can put a basin of water indoors.
When the air is dry, the strings of the guqin will become loose, and the pitch may be suddenly lowered. That is because of the wet expansion and dry contraction, the sound of the strings and velvet buttons that pull the strings is loose. This is normal, and you can play it after tuning.
No matter what grade and quality of the piano, there is a common situation in the four seasons: when you play the scattered sound, or the overtone, or the sound of a certain string, you will hear a sharp noise. At this time, it is likely that due to the change of air humidity, resonance occurs between the "non-effective vibrating string" and the "effective vibrating string" on the piano surface between the multiple strings between the wild goose's foot and the dragon's gum. The length of the strings on the bottom of the piano is wrapped with tape to prevent them from vibrating with each other, and the noise can be eliminated.
It is advisable to clean the piano surface frequently, as the dust will not only aggravate the wear and tear of the finish, but also affect the tone. Use a slightly damp soft cloth, or the kind of wet paper towel sold in the supermarket, let it cool and dry a little, wipe the piano with a little humidity, insert it into the bottom of the strings, wipe the top of the guqin and the bottom of the strings, and wipe it after drying. Guqin-specific curing paste to lubricate the strings, and then use lacquer curing oil to wipe the Guqin panel.
Playing the guqin is the best way to maintain the guqin. Make time to play it every day, so that the sound will get better and better (of course, it depends on the craftsmanship and level of the guqin itself, and the potential for sound improvement is very different). Before playing, you should also wipe your hands clean to prevent water, sweat, oil, etc. from your fingers from sticking to the strings, making the strings dirty or rusted and shortening the service life. After playing, wipe the body with a dry cloth before storing.
