When playing the lyre, you can take two postures, sitting or standing. When playing in a sitting position, place the piano bar diagonally in front of the chest, place the piano barrel on or outside the right leg, and tilt the headstock to the upper left, forming a 45° angle; when playing in a standing position, hang the strap on the neck, and the piano bar is inclined. In front of the chest, the qin barrel is placed in front of the right abdomen, and the head of the qin is inclined to the upper left.
The left hand holds the piano and presses the strings, and the right hand often uses the thumb, middle finger and ring finger to form three points to hold down both sides of the piano barrel panel, and use the tip of the index finger to play the strings. You can also use the right hand to hold the pick above the piano barrel.
The lyre is often tuned according to the relationship of fourth or fifth, but it is customary to set the inner string as the treble and the outer string as the bass, which is different from other ethnic instruments. Folk tuning does not have a fixed standard pitch. Generally, it depends on the tune played or the level of the accompaniment vocals. The usual tuning is: c1, g; d1, a or d1, g; e1, a. The vocal range can reach more than two and a half octaves, but usually only one octave in the mid-bass region is used, that is, the vocal range used for vocal singing.
The pronunciation is bright and full, and the tone is round and sweet. Lyra has rich expressive power, and commonly used performance techniques such as single tone, double tone, percussion, long tone, pause and portamento, especially when playing two contrasting parts with alto and bass, the effect is better. Can express joy, anger, sadness, music and other emotions, and is good at playing cheerful and lyrical tunes. It can be used for solo or accompaniment for folk songs and dances, or one or more people can play, sing and dance. It is the only stringed instrument used in the entertainment activities of the Zhuang branch. Both men and women like to play the lyre, especially folk artists and singers have higher performance skills.
Every March 3rd is the song festival of the Zhuang people. The partial people also have to celebrate their traditional "A Bao Festival" grandly. In the grand A Bao activity organized by Bandian Village, Dongzhong Township, Fangcheng Autonomous County, not only the partial people participated happily, but there are also two countries here. Thousands of people from three provinces and four counties (ie, Fangcheng, Shangsi, Ningming County in Guangdong, Guangxi, China, and Pingcha County, Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam) came to add to the fun. The happiest people in the "A Bao Festival" are young men and women. They are looking for lovers in the antiphonal song. First, they ask each other their names and backgrounds through singing, and then greet and congratulate each other, and then examine each other's talents and express their love. When parting, they should also use singing to encourage and send each other. When the antiphonal song reaches its climax, the young men and women will pick up the lyre and play, sing, and dance in joy. The lyre is both an accompaniment instrument for singing and a prop for dancing. This activity sometimes lasts for days or nights. The seeds of love sown in the festival will bloom into the flowers of happiness in the future.
