Miao flute, a clarinet gas-sounding instrument. In Miao language, it is called Guolin Dou, "losing eyes".
When playing the Miao flute. The flute body is placed horizontally, the mouth contains the reed at the head end, and the sound can be pronounced by blowing and sucking with a gentle air flow.
The Miao flute has a soft and pleasant tone, with a slightly nasal tone. The vocal range is narrow, generally only 5 tones can be issued. When the sound hole is fully closed, the lowest note is produced, the first hole is opened to raise a semitone, the second hole is opened to raise a minor third, the third hole is opened to raise a pure fourth, and the fourth hole is opened to raise a pure fifth. Or by controlling the blowing strength, the sixth degree (such as from f1 to d2) can be obtained.
Although the pitch of the Miao flute remains the same when it is blown and sucked, the timbre is different. Using the method of blowing and sucking to play the repetition of the same tone really has a unique effect. In this way, the air can be freely exchanged, so that the performance has a lasting endurance.
