Xiaoxiao, a musical instrument of the Dai people. It is popular in Menglian Dai, Lahu and Wa Autonomous County of Simao City, Yunnan Province and Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture.
When playing the Xiaoxiao, the pipe body is placed upright. The mouth contains the upper end of the nozzle, the air flow enters from the bamboo vent hole, and the sound is produced by impinging on the lower edge of the sound hole. The sounds are listed as d2, e2, #f2, a2, b2. The fingering method of Xiaoxiao is as follows: the ring finger, middle finger and index finger of the left hand press the first, second and third holes respectively, and the middle finger and index finger of the right hand press the fourth and fifth holes respectively. Among them, the pronunciation of b2 and the fingering method are particularly unique. Five holes.
During playing, the index finger of the left hand often moves up and down quickly on the sound hole to produce the decorative sound effect.
Xiaoxiao has a crisp pronunciation and a high-pitched tone. Often used for solo. It is a self-entertainment wind instrument favored by the Dai people. The music is mostly improvised, and the popular solo pieces include "Love Song" and so on.
