When playing, the sitting position is mostly used, the piano bar is slanted across the chest, the piano box is placed at the root of the right leg, and the headstock is inclined at a 45° angle to the upper left.
The left hand holds the string and the right hand holds a bone or hardwood pick.
The inner and middle strings of the Zhuang nationality sanxian are tuned according to the fifth, middle and outer strings according to the relationship of the fourth interval, and the inner and outer strings are in the octave relationship. The range a-a2 has two octaves. The sound is crisp and bright, and the sound is full.
The Zhuang Sanxian has been circulated in the western and southern Guizhou Zhuang Townships, but it is generally not used as a solo instrument. It is mainly used for the ensemble of the Western Guangxi Zhuang Nationality Eight Music Team or the music accompaniment of the South Road Zhuang Opera. In the performances of Jingxi and Debao Morun in Guinan, Zhuang Sanxian is also used as an accompaniment instrument.
