Due to the influence of air humidity, the lifespan of the guzheng will be greatly shortened. If the weather is too humid or too dry, our guzheng will be damaged.

When the amount of water in the woody nucleus and the amount of water in the surrounding air tend to balance. When the air is dry, the wood shrinks, thereby reducing the pressure inside the cells. Very humid air will cause great harm to the wood fibers, so we must ensure that the ideal air humidity is 55%. However, if the humidity is 30% for a long time, it will cause the guzheng to crack.

Reasons for wood cracking: one is the cracking caused by vibration, and the other is that the lack of water will also cause the wood to shrink. Generally, cracks in the vertical direction are relatively rare, and materials are generally selected before making musical instruments.

It's a good idea to have a hygrometer in the room that emits the instrument. When it is found that the air is relatively dry, put a humidifier and use moisturizing cream to wipe the parts that are prone to cracking such as the guzheng flower board, Yueshan, and penetrating holes. A good guzheng must strengthen daily maintenance.

Note: Do not wipe the panel with a damp cloth, let alone apply moisturizing cream.
